The very first thing every player needs is a full physical so that coaches are fully aware of any and all pre-existing conditions or injuries a player might have. In some cases, for example, it might not be a good idea for someone to play if an injury hasn't completely healed. Injuries that happen during game play need to be immediately assessed. because of the fact that your players don't want to be in the dugouts during a game they won't often tell you when they are hurt so you as a coach must make the call. Everyone should recognize the potential danger that bats represent. Bats should only be swung when necessary during games and practices. If someone isn't up to bat or on deck, they shouldn't be swinging a bat in the dugout or on the field. It should be a strict rule that players stay safely away from any player holding a bat. As a rule, no one should swing a bat without looking around first. The idea is that bats must always be respected and never swung carelessly when other people are nearby.

Base running is an activity that can cause injuries if players don't know the proper techniques. Base running can be a little complicated, and no two situations are exactly alike. When you run, it's most natural to stick to one direction, but when you run the bases, it's necessary to keep turning, which can be tricky. Someone running the bases has to decide whether to land on the base, slide or continue on to the next base. If a runner becomes careless and doesn't pay attention to his movements, this can easily lead to an injury when running or sliding. The better a player's overall fitness, of course, the less chance that an injury will occur when base running. For both the sake of winning games and keeping players safe, it's a good idea for coaches to include base running drills during practice sessions.
