Facts About Yeast Infection

Yeast infection

A yeast infection is a usual condition that can affect different parts of the body. This is due to the overgrowth of fungi called yeasts in different parts of the body. These yeasts grow on various parts of the human body especially in areas where theres a little moisture.

There are various fungi that can cause these infections but the most common among them is the candida fungi which is why the condition is also termed as candidiasis. These fungi are naturally occurring and just hang around all over our bodies. However, too much or overabundance of these yeasts may cause problems.

These infections usually happen in moist areas of the body. These parts include the mouth, genital areas and even in the nails. Children and adults alike may have this infection.

There are a lot of reasons why yeast overgrows. As yeasts are normally present in the body, their number is controlled by the immune system. If problems occur and the immune system bugs down, the yeasts would multiply rapidly causing infection.

A weakened immune system may be due to certain conditions such as AIDS or HIV infection, stress and malnutrition. Those who are taking steroids or under cancer medication also have weak immune systems. Women are also more susceptible to these infections during menstruation or pregnancy. Using birth control pills could also encourage growth of yeasts.

You have a lot of options in treating these infections. Sometimes it is not necessary to immediately see a doctor as soon as you suspect of having the infection. You may opt for some natural remedies for yeast infection. For instance, washing your girls private area can help promote the growth of good bacteria and control the growth of yeasts. You may also use some over the counter creams but you should be very careful with them.

Yet there may be times when you really need to seek medical assistance. Youd usually have to undergo testing for te actual cause of the infection. If it is the overgrowth of yeasts then they would usually prescribe medications like yeastrol. For more information on yeast infection and its cure you can visit here.
